The market for food experiences has been driven by strong demand from organizers and guests alike. As it is associated with many manual processes and huge waste, it is only a small number of events that actually make a profit. Still, it provides creative expression and positive marketing, which means that restaurants and organizers endure the difficulties and economic risks. RSVP wants to remove these barriers and make it easier and profitable.
RSVP’s proprietary booking platform handles, as the only one, a full range of dining experiences, from pop-ups and other special events to daily table reservations. With a focus on tools for administrative savings and waste reduction, the company offers more than their competitors that are mostly just ticket portals or booking systems.
The business model is based on three pillars:
1) Pop-up tickets, where a fee is paid per ticket sold
2) Restaurant booking where a monthly subscription is paid
3) Market network where agreements are arranged between organizers and suppliers on the platform with commission to RSVP on all transactions
The market for pop-up restaurants is USD 500 million per year, restaurant bookings of USD 1.2 billion. Market networks are harder as it is a new category, but RSVP estimates a potential of up to USD 150 billion.
What has been accomplished?
RSVP’s strategy is divided into 3 phases. Phase 1 is high profile pop-up profiling achieved with more than 45,000 tickets sold to pop-ups in 28 countries, including some of the world’s biggest names. Phase 2 is the expansion of the network and fixed revenue through restaurant bookings. Newly developed in 2019, this module has already received excellent reception in an otherwise highly competitive market, including some of the world’s best restaurants. Phase 3 is expected to begin in early 2021.
